Communities of Kyrgyzstan for Environmental Safety

Under the motto «Communities of Kyrgyzstan for Environmental Safety,» a project was implemented in Kyrgyzstan to provide technologies that improve environmental safety and stability in select rural communities. The project included the following key components:

Ecosan toilets: as part of the project, environmentally safe «Ecosan toilets» were built in schools in the Novopokrovka and Chui regions. These toilets do not pollute groundwater and safely process human waste. This technology prevents contamination of natural water bodies and allows the resulting organic matter to be used as fertilizer for household plots after composting.

Improving drinking-water quality: the project introduced measures to improve drinking-water quality in pilot villages. This included training residents in water-testing methods and the use of alternative water-purification methods, such as solar water barrels.

Educational activities and creation of Environmental Committees: the project held training seminars for residents and representatives of Environmental Committees, which were established within the villages. Residents were introduced to the principles of environmental safety, methods of environmental assessment, and ways to test drinking water.

Information dissemination and master classes: banners with information about the «Bellagio Principles» and examples of sustainable sanitation technologies were installed in the pilot villages as part of the project. Master classes were also held, in which residents learned to use environmentally safe technologies such as assembling solar barrels and building water pumps from available materials.

The project was successfully implemented with the active support of local authorities and is intended to help improve the quality of life of rural residents, as well as to promote environmental safety and sustainable development in the region.
