Environmental Rights for the Citizens of Kyrgyzstan

The project «Environmental Rights for the Citizens of Kyrgyzstan,» implemented in 2013, aimed to raise awareness and strengthen the active role of citizens in environmental safety and the protection of environmental rights. The project’s target group consisted of journalists and media staff, as well as representatives of public organizations working to protect citizens’ environmental rights.

The project’s main activities included:
Development of information materials: a guide was developed and published to help the public make environmentally sound decisions. Posters, leaflets, and other information materials on environmental safety and the protection of citizens’ environmental rights were also produced.
Lecture series for journalists: lectures and training events were held for journalists on environmental safety and the role of the media in protecting citizens’ environmental rights.
Press conference «Environmental Safety of Bishkek»: a press conference was organized to discuss environmental safety issues in the city of Bishkek and possible ways to improve the environmental situation.
Online presence: to ensure maximum accessibility of information, web portals, social media pages, and video resources on YouTube were created, featuring project materials and information.
Training seminars: two training seminars were held on environmental safety and public participation in environmentally significant decision-making, organized for the pilot villages of the «Good Governance for Social Justice» project.

The project’s goal was to foster a more informed and active society capable of defending its environmental rights and participating in decisions aimed at ensuring environmental safety and sustainable resource management. This project was an important step toward strengthening environmental rights and environmental awareness in Kyrgyzstan.
