Project «Introducing Sustainable Development, Energy Efficiency, and Climate Change Issues into Kyrgyzstan’s School Education System» (2010-2015)
Introduction: From 2010 to 2015, the Norwegian Ministry of Foreign Affairs actively cooperated with the Kyrgyz Republic to reform the education system. The main goal of this initiative was to create new educational standards focused on the needs and individual characteristics of each student, as well as to develop the education program.
Main areas of work:
Creating a suitable educational environment for children with special needs: the project planned significant work to create learning conditions that meet the needs of children with special needs, with the goal of ensuring them equal educational opportunities.
Integrating issues of sustainable development, efficient energy use, and climate-change adaptation: one of the project’s main goals was to introduce the principles of sustainable development, energy efficiency, and climate-change adaptation into the new generation of school education standards.
Strengthening the position of education for sustainable development in national policy: the project aims to actively promote education for sustainable development in Kyrgyzstan’s national education policy.
Participation in incorporating sustainable-development education into high-level national documents: the project also worked purposefully to incorporate sustainable-development education issues into national strategic documents.
Participation in developing new education standards: a key component of the project was active support for the development and implementation of new education standards that take into account modern challenges such as sustainable development and climate change.
Incorporating sustainable development, energy-use efficiency, and climate-change adaptation into new-generation school education standards: the project sought to introduce important aspects of sustainability, efficient energy use, and climate-change adaptation into updated school education standards.
Participation in the process of retraining teachers on new education standards: the project also supported the training of teachers and educators on new education standards, providing them with the knowledge and skills needed for the successful implementation of updated programs in educational institutions.
This project is aimed at improving Kyrgyzstan’s education system in light of modern challenges and seeks to equip students with the knowledge and skills needed for a more sustainable and responsible future, as well as for adapting to a changing climate and using resources efficiently.
