National Round Table on Mechanisms and Practices for Community-Level Climate Change Adaptation

Project goal:
The project organizes a national round table devoted to mechanisms and practices for adapting to climate change at the community level in Kyrgyzstan. The event’s main goal is to exchange knowledge and experience in adaptation, as well as to support the integration of community-level adaptation practices into national climate strategies and policies.

Main steps and activities:
1. Organizing the round table: the project holds a national round table, bringing together representatives of government and non-government organizations, experts, and activists working on community-level climate-change adaptation. Current issues and examples of successful adaptation practices are discussed at the event.
2. Participation of key stakeholders: the round table is attended by representatives of the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of Kyrgyzstan, the Environmental Movement «BIOM,» as well as other interested organizations and stakeholders.
3. Exchange of experience: round-table participants share their experience and knowledge in community-level climate-change adaptation. The project creates a platform for discussing best practices and innovative solutions.

4. Preparation and publication of a brochure: as a result of the round table’s work, a brochure titled «Climate Change: Examples of Community-Level Adaptation Practices» is prepared. This information material contains examples of successful adaptation practices that can serve as inspiration and guidance for other communities and climate specialists.
5. Financial support: the project is implemented as part of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) Small Grants Programme with financial support from the Government of Switzerland. This financial support ensures the event is held and the information materials are published.

The goal of this project is to help disseminate knowledge and experience on community-level climate-change adaptation in Kyrgyzstan. This helps increase the resilience and reduce the vulnerability of local communities to climate challenges, as well as integrate adaptation measures into national climate strategies.
