Project on Capacity Building and Institutional Development for Climate Finance Readiness in Kyrgyzstan

Project goal:
The project aims to develop Kyrgyzstan’s capacity and institutional readiness to finance and implement projects related to solving climate problems. Its main goal is to ensure access to international sources of climate financing and to prepare relevant personnel and key institutions in the country for effective participation in international climate initiatives.

Main steps and activities:
1. Orientation and training: the project trains personnel and representatives of key institutions in Kyrgyzstan on the international climate-financing framework. This includes training on accessing climate funds, mechanisms, and programs, as well as on developing and managing projects related to climate adaptation and mitigation.
2. Development of institutional readiness: the project supports the strengthening of institutional mechanisms and structures for Kyrgyzstan’s effective participation in international climate initiatives. This may include creating coordinating bodies, developing climate strategies and action plans, and strengthening cooperation between government and non-government organizations.
3. Development of projects and initiatives: as part of the project, specific climate projects are developed, aimed at solving specific problems in agriculture, forestry, and other forms of land use. Projects may also cover issues of biodiversity restoration and land greening.
4. Partnership and cooperation: the project is implemented in partnership with local and international organizations, including the SAEPF of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Michael Succow Foundation for Nature Conservation (Germany), and the environmental law consulting agency «Atlas.» This cooperation facilitates the exchange of experience and resources, as well as more effective achievement of project goals.
5. Support for the PIN NAMA: the project has developed a PIN NAMA (Nationally Appropriate Mitigation Action Policy Instrument Note) titled «Re-vegetation of Riparian Floodplains and Rehabilitation of Kyrgyzstan’s Wetlands,» aimed at addressing climate problems related to greening river floodplains and restoring wetlands in Kyrgyzstan.

This project is important for strengthening Kyrgyzstan’s ability to finance and implement projects to solve climate problems, which helps strengthen the country’s resilience and contributes to global efforts to combat climate change.
