Study and Analysis of Requirements for the Design and Engineering of Water Supply, Sanitation and Hygiene Systems

The project, implemented in 2012, aimed to study and analyze the requirements for the design and engineering of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene (WASH) systems in schools and healthcare facilities in Kyrgyzstan. The project’s main goal was to identify gaps and shortcomings in existing WASH systems, as well as to determine the role and responsibility of government bodies in ensuring WASH and to assess existing Kyrgyz legislation in this area.

The project carried out a comprehensive analysis of design and construction standards for WASH systems, as well as the procedures for obtaining permits to build and operate such systems. This analysis included checking the compliance of sanitation and hygiene designs and systems with existing norms and standards.

Based on the results of the analysis, recommendations and proposals were developed for improving the procedures and requirements for the design and engineering of WASH in schools and healthcare facilities. These recommendations were directed at the level of legislative and regulatory acts with the aim of improving sanitation and hygiene legislation.

The project had a significant impact on ensuring healthy and safe conditions in Kyrgyzstan’s schools and healthcare facilities. It helped identify problems and shortcomings in WASH systems and contributed to improving the regulatory framework aimed at ensuring environmental safety and the health of the country’s citizens.
