Participation in developing the Third National Communication of the Kyrgyz Republic under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change is part of a project implemented by UNEP (the United Nations Environment Programme) and the GEF (Global Environment Facility) in Kyrgyzstan. This project aims to prepare the Third National Communication (TNC) of the Kyrgyz Republic on climate change in accordance with the requirements of the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
The Environmental Movement «Biom» actively participated in developing the «Third National Communication of the Kyrgyz Republic under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.» This significant participation is aimed at providing comprehensive information on climate change in the country and the actions being taken to adapt to and mitigate its consequences.
The main sections covered by the Third National Communication, in accordance with the decisions of the Conferences of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), include:
National circumstances: this section provides an overview of climatic conditions in Kyrgyzstan, including data on average temperatures, precipitation, climate change, and its impact on natural resources.
Inventory of anthropogenic emissions and removals of greenhouse gases: this section analyzes greenhouse gas emissions from various sources and assesses the country’s ability to absorb these gases through natural processes, such as plant photosynthesis and forest ecosystems.
Vulnerability and adaptation: this section analyzes the vulnerability of various regions and sectors in Kyrgyzstan to climate change. It also describes measures and strategies being developed for adaptation to climate change in order to reduce its negative impact.
Analysis of climate-change mitigation: this section assesses actions and strategies aimed at mitigating the consequences of climate change, such as reducing greenhouse gas emissions, introducing renewable energy sources, and other measures to reduce climate impact.
Other information relevant to achieving the Convention’s goals: this section provides additional information that may be important for achieving the UNFCCC’s goals on climate change.
The Third National Communication is thus a report on the country’s actions and strategies in the field of climate change following the release of the first and second national communications. The participation of the Environmental Movement «Biom» in this process helps ensure high-quality and objective information on climate challenges and measures to address them in Kyrgyzstan.
