The project «Water — The Source of Life» (2003-2004) was a major international initiative in which the Environmental Movement «BIOM» actively cooperated with partners from various countries and organizations, such as the NGOs «EcoObraz» and «EcoCenter» (Kazakhstan), the public center «Atrof Muhit va Sog’lom Hayot» (Uzbekistan), and the «Field Studies Council» (United Kingdom). The project’s main goal was to build the capacity of teachers and young people in Central Asian countries (Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan) to address water-consumption issues and develop sustainable water-use practices, both in schools and in society at large.
As part of this initiative, a training manual was developed for schools in Central Asia. This manual contained information on the importance of water resources, methods of water conservation and use, and sustainability. It provided teachers and students with not only theoretical knowledge but also practical tools for solving water-consumption problems in their regions.
In addition, special attention was paid to educational events and a summer camp, «Close the Circle of Life Together with Us!» for teachers from Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan. These events allowed students and teachers to exchange knowledge and experience, and to create practical action plans for maintaining environmental safety in educational institutions.
The project «Water — The Source of Life» was a successful example of international cooperation in the field of ecology and education, contributing to the development of sustainable water use and increasing environmental awareness in Central Asia. The project’s central idea was that schools can make a significant contribution to the sustainable use of water resources by integrating elements of sustainable environmental management into educational programs and preparing young people to make environmentally balanced decisions for the future. This project embodied the joint efforts of various countries and organizations in the struggle to preserve water resources and environmental sustainability.
