Climate Change

The project "Youth Resilience to Climate Change" was launched in the Kyrgyz Republic in December 2020. The project received support from the European Union as part of the initiative "Support for Climate Change Action and Adaptation."

Participation in developing the Third National Communication of the Kyrgyz Republic under the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change.
This is an important document that presents information on climate change in the country and measures taken to adapt to it and mitigate its impact. The activity includes data collection, analysis of climatic conditions, and assessment of the vulnerability of Kyrgyzstan's regions to climate challenges. The result of this work will be the prepared Third National Communication, presented at the international level, which serves as an important tool for coordination and cooperation on climate change.

Work as part of an interdepartmental working group to develop the "Concept for Reforming the Forestry and Hunting Sectors in the Kyrgyz Republic," aimed at improving forest-resource management and environmental protection, as well as promoting the sustainable development of forestry and hunting in the country.

As part of the initiative, key institutions in Kyrgyzstan were introduced to and relevant personnel were trained on the international climate-financing framework and on ensuring access to financing opportunities for solving climate problems in the agriculture, forestry, and other land-use sectors, as well as other related areas. In addition, a PIN NAMA titled "Re-vegetation of Riparian Floodplains and Rehabilitation of Kyrgyzstan's Wetlands" was developed. The project was implemented in partnership with the SAEPF of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Michael Succow Foundation for Nature Conservation (Germany), and the environmental law consulting agency "Atlas."

The round table was held by the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic and the Environmental Movement "BIOM" as part of the UNDP/GEF program on community-level climate-change adaptation, implemented through the GEF Small Grants Programme with financial support from the Government of Switzerland (the project "Community Adaptation: Integration into National Policies and Cooperation among Central Asian Countries"). Based on the results of the round table, the brochure "Climate Change: Examples of Community-Level Adaptation Practices" was prepared and published.

A Central Asian subregional non-governmental platform for active CSOs in the subregion, national climate networks of CSOs, experts, local community leaders, young people, progressive representatives of academia and science, and the active population, for discussion, exchange of information, opinions, best practices, and sustainable approaches to promoting adaptation and mitigation of the consequences of climate change and finding comprehensive solutions that take into account the needs of sustainable social development. The Environmental Movement "BIOM" oversees the network's work in Kyrgyzstan.

The project's main focus was on increasing the level of environmental safety and the capacity for adaptation to the consequences of climate change in the healthcare systems of local communities in 7 regions of Kyrgyzstan through a communication and information campaign aimed at the use of renewable energy sources, biodiversity conservation, greening territories with local species, and developing local plans to reduce climate-related health risks for the population. As part of the project, a series of posters, the manual "Climate Change and Health," and other materials were prepared and published.

The project to support Kyrgyzstan's environmental organizations and build their capacity in biodiversity conservation and climate stabilization is an initiative aimed at strengthening and developing environmental non-governmental organizations in Kyrgyzstan with the goal of improving natural resource management and addressing climate change. The project provides financial, technical, and organizational support to organizations working in environmental protection and climate stability.

The project aimed to raise public awareness of the role of biological diversity in climate stabilization.

A multidimensional study aimed at examining how local communities in Kyrgyzstan perceive and respond to climate change. The project analyzes the impact of climate change on local ecosystems, the lifestyle and resources of local residents, and assesses their level of readiness and adaptation to changing climatic conditions.

The project was aimed at increasing the level of awareness among students and young specialists at Kyrgyzstan's universities on issues of climate change through information meetings at leading universities in Kyrgyzstan, and the publication and distribution of information posters and banners on the problem of climate change and biodiversity loss.
