On June 16, 2025, a public discussion of the project State Program for the Conservation of Biological Diversity of the Kyrgyz Republic until 2040 and Action Plan for 2025-2030 was held in Osh.
Experts, teachers, representatives of local self-government bodies, non-governmental organizations, businesses, and local communities took part in the discussion.
As a result of the meeting, participants presented 84 proposals related to various aspects of biodiversity conservation. Among them are the development of environmental education, the expansion of areas of specially protected natural territories, the creation of laboratories for studying flora and fauna, and other initiatives.
The head of the Department of Biological Resources of the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, Kumar Mambetaliev, emphasized the importance of broad public participation in the development of the document:
“The voice of every citizen must be heard. This is our common strategy, and its implementation requires joint actions.”
Public discussions are conducted by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology, and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic in collaboration with UNDP, GEF, GBF, the Environmental Movement “BIOM,” and other partner organizations.
Their task is to take into account the positions of various societal groups and to form the State Program based on joint discussions and practical proposals.
