The communities of the Fergana Valley strengthen climate resilience.

Communities of the Fergana Valley are taking practical steps to strengthen climate resilience and develop a dialogue around the joint use of natural resources.
The project “Women of the Fergana Valley at the Forefront of Climate Change Resilience, Adaptation, and Peace,” implemented by the UNDP and the NGO “BIOM” with funding from UN Peacebuilding and Peace Support, launched a series of capacity-building events in 20 pilot rural areas of Osh, Jalal-Abad, and Batken regions.
In recent months, representatives of local self-government bodies, civil society organizations, and local communities have participated in training on assessing climate and water risks, scenario planning, applying conflict-sensitive approaches, and implementing climate-resilient irrigation methods.
🔹 173 participants engaged in scenario planning training.
🔹 164 people learned climate-resilient irrigation methods and how to prepare applications for small grants.
🔹 300 participants were involved in training on peacebuilding and conflict-sensitive dialogue.
🔹 The majority of participants were women.
The initiative fosters the development of local skills for better understanding of climate and water risks, their integration into territorial development plans, and finding joint solutions for sustainable management of natural resources.
By bringing together local communities, experts, and partners, UNDP supports practical actions aimed at strengthening trust, social cohesion, and enhancing community resilience to climate change.
The next step will be to support community initiatives through small grants aimed at improving water resource management and strengthening climate resilience.
