In the country, a third of schools and more than half of kindergartens do not have access to central sewage. This was stated today, April 10, at a press conference by Esen Turusbekov, coordinator of water supply, sanitation, and hygiene programs. Therefore, the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic announced the “Tap-Taza” competition. It is aimed at encouraging and finding ways to access clean water in schools, improving the overall sanitary situation in educational institutions. To achieve this, Turusbekov believes it is necessary not only to improve infrastructure but also to conduct lessons dedicated to general hygiene: teaching children to wash their hands, for example. And, of course, schools need to be consistently supplied with soap, toilet paper, clean water, keep premises tidy, and ventilate. Only 280 soms a year (per student) is needed to ensure that schools have all the essentials, clarified the ministry representative. The “Tap-Taza” competition will also allow different schools to learn from each other, share experiences, and successful solutions. |
