On September 21, 2020, a national presentation of the draft resolution for the 75th session of the UN General Assembly took place in Bishkek titled “Nature Knows No Boundaries: Transboundary Cooperation – An Important Factor in the Conservation and Use of Biological Diversity”.
The presentation was attended by representatives of international, state, and public organizations, as well as representatives of diplomatic missions.
This draft resolution was submitted to the UN by the Kyrgyz Republic and aims to ensure the prompt adoption of joint actions for environmental protection, the conservation of biological diversity, and environmental security. The project is expected to be presented at the UN General Assembly in October of this year. The initiative was developed in close cooperation with public ecological organizations and reflects the invaluable importance of biological diversity for human life.
Among the speakers at the presentation were Mr. Nuran Niyazaliev, First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kyrgyz Republic; Mr. Luis Chamberlain, Permanent Representative of the UN in the Kyrgyz Republic; and Mr. Anna Kirilenko, Director of ED “BIOM” and Head of the Global Forest Coalition.
The Director of ED “BIOM” noted during the presentation of the resolution that this initiative highlights once again how significantly the current serious state of COVID-19 showcases the fragility of our security outlook. There is no doubt that the disruption of nature’s integrity and the current ecological problems are the result of human activity. The increasing burden placed on natural ecosystems by humans has led them to the point where they can no longer cope and function normally. According to calculations by ecological and biological experts (Odum, Gorshkov, Shukurov), to stabilize the current ecology, 60% of the planet must be covered by natural (wild) ecosystems. More about this concept can be found in E.J. Shukurov’s “The Importance of Wildlife.” More information about biotic regulation can be found on bioticregulation.ru, biom.kg websites, and in the video E.J. Shukurov “Biotic Mechanisms of Climate Regulation.”
