As part of the work of the Twenty-Second Meeting of the Advisory Body for Scientific, Technical, and Technological Advice (ABSTTA) in Montreal, Canada, a side event was held focusing on the gender aspects of implementing the Aichi targets and the countries’ plans for biodiversity conservation.
The side event was organized by the Secretariat of the Convention on Biological Diversity, UN Women, and the Global Forest Coalition. At the side event, Tanya McGregor, the coordinator for gender issues at the convention, presented information on gender policy and the main achievements of the convention on gender issues. She introduced methodological guidelines that became the foundation for countries’ work on integrating the gender component into national reports and biodiversity conservation plans. I shared the experience of our country within the framework of the CCRI initiative and the Women 2030 project.
Participants showed great interest in the experience of our Kyrgyzstan regarding support for local women’s initiatives for biodiversity conservation, approaches to conducting gender analysis of documents related to biodiversity conservation, and the capabilities of local communities to organize micro-reserves and local conservation areas.
