On September 26, 2019, a round table titled “Issues of Environmental Measurement in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals” connected the Centers of Tolerance and Safety from three universities in Kyrgyzstan (KSU named after I. Arabaev, OshSU, and the University “ADAM”) through online bridges to discuss Sustainable Development.
The round table “Issues of Environmental Measurement in Achieving Sustainable Development Goals” was organized within the framework of the international initiative “Global Week of Action” by the Ecological Movement “BIOM” in partnership with three leading universities of Kyrgyzstan, joined by the United Nations in Kyrgyzstan, the State Agency for Environmental Protection and Forestry under the Government of the Kyrgyz Republic, and prominent environmental NGOs of Kyrgyzstan.
The event was dedicated to the Global Week of Climate Action, declared by the UN from September 20 to 27. University lecturers, youth group leaders, Youth Ambassadors of the SDGs in Kyrgyzstan, local and international experts, and representatives of government bodies and public organizations will participate in the round table.
“Today, the world is particularly alarmed by glacial melting, increased droughts and hurricanes, and ecosystem degradation. People around the world are trying to combat climate change. However, success depends not only on governments and companies. It also depends on us; everyone must think about the future and act. Ecologists, government bodies, international organizations, and society must unite to prevent catastrophic changes and to implement necessary adaptation measures,” notes Ivan Blokov, Director of Programs at Greenpeace Russia.
Participants of the round table exchanged innovative approaches, knowledge, and international practices on climate change issues, as well as discussed the possibility of public participation in the Agenda for the period until 2030 at the national, regional, and global levels.
