On 14 April the launch of the national consultations “Stockholm +50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity” took place, at which Anna Kirilenko, Executive Director of the Ecological Movement «BIOM» and head of the project «Youth Resilience to Climate Change», gave a speech.

In accordance with two resolutions (A/RES/75/280 and A/RES/75/326), the UN General Assembly is convening an international high-level meeting entitled “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity” in Stockholm on 2–3 June 2022, timed to coincide with the celebration of World Environment Day. The “Stockholm+50” meeting will mark the fiftieth anniversary of the 1972 United Nations Conference on the Human Environment and 50 years of global action on environmental protection. Recognising the importance of a multilateral approach in overcoming the Earth’s triple planetary crisis (climate change, biodiversity loss and pollution), the event is intended to be a springboard for accelerating the implementation of the UN Decade of Action on the Sustainable Development Goals, including the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the Paris Agreement on climate change and the post-2020 global biodiversity framework, and to support the adoption of “green” national recovery plans after the COVID-19 pandemic.
The high-level meeting in the context of the Decade of Action for sustainable development on the theme “Stockholm+50: a healthy planet for the prosperity of all – our responsibility, our opportunity” is preceded by several rounds of consultations and discussions with individuals, communities, organisations and governments around the world. The meeting is hosted by the Government of Sweden with the support of the Government of Kenya.
The international meeting and its preparation will ensure the effective participation of all Member States of the United Nations and of the UN specialised agencies, as well as of the parties to multilateral environmental agreements, and representation at the highest possible level is encouraged.
