The Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the Kyrgyz Republic, with UNDP support and in partnership with BIOM and the “Resources and Consulting” STC, is developing the State Program for Biodiversity Conservation of the Kyrgyz Republic through 2040 and the Action Plan for 2025-2030.
The purpose of the update is to define a modern vision, goals and strategic priorities of the Kyrgyz Republic in the field of conserving and sustainably using biological diversity. The Plan and Program are being developed in the most open and inclusive format possible. During preparation, a series of thematic focus groups was held, attended by representatives of government bodies, the scientific community, non-governmental and international organizations, business structures, local communities, and other stakeholders. The results of the focus groups formed the basis of the documents being developed and ensure that a wide range of opinions and practical experience in biodiversity conservation and sustainable natural resource use are taken into account. Thus, the Program and Action Plan being created represent a joint outcome of national dialogue, reflecting the interests of various groups in society.
From June 12 to 18, 2025, the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision is holding broad public discussions of this document in the cities of Cholpon-Ata, Naryn, Osh and Jalal-Abad. The purpose of the public discussions is to gather the opinions of all stakeholders on finalizing the KR’s strategic biodiversity conservation documents. Participation is possible both offline and online. Updating the National Strategy and Action Plan concerns not only nature conservation but also the quality of life of the population, the sustainability of agriculture, tourism and forestry, and the preservation of cultural and natural heritage, all of which depend on the state of natural resources.
