On July 2, 2021, a discussion of the National Public Position on the occasion of the 26th UNFCCC Conference of the Parties was held.
The purpose of the event was to familiarize participants with civil society’s National Position on our country’s readiness to participate in international climate change processes, as well as on new ambitious greenhouse gas emission reduction initiatives set out in the Kyrgyz Republic’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) document.
Nurzat Abdyrasulova, President of Unison Group and Chair of the Green Alliance of Kyrgyzstan, stated in her presentation that the Kyrgyz Republic is especially vulnerable to climate change and at the same time can announce ambitious initiatives to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
Anna Kirilenko, manager of the “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project and executive director of BIOM, spoke about the public’s contribution to Kyrgyzstan’s ambitious NDC targets.
“Kyrgyzstan is us, it is each one of us. And our public must be at the center of all climate processes,” noted Anna Kirilenko.
It was also noted that during consultations held in all regions of the country as part of the “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project, 80% of participants said they feel the effects of climate change.
According to Anna Kirilenko, one of the main problems is the lack of an appropriate methodology: “Our youth is active and ready to contribute to climate processes, but they don’t know how to do it.”

The “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project is implemented under the general coordination of the Norwegian Society for the Protection of Nature, in partnership with BIOM and GLIP, with the financial support of the European Union.
