On July 7, the partnership of public organizations Green Alliance.KG with UNISON Foundation, the UNDP project “Political Action for Climate Security in Central Asia”, funded by the UK Government, and BIOM, as part of the “Youth Resilience to Climate Change – Zhashyl Klimat” project, held a presentation of a joint agenda and documents from youth and civil society for government bodies on climate change prevention and mitigation policy.
According to Anna Kirilenko, manager of the “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project and executive director of BIOM, Kyrgyzstan has a special role in climate processes in Central Asia, and our country needs to promote its initiatives at the regional level.
Anna Kirilenko also noted the need to integrate youth and women’s communities into the decision-making process on climate change prevention and mitigation.
Representatives of the Zhogorku Kenesh, the State Committee for Ecology and Climate, the Ministry of Economy and Finance, the Ministry of Emergency Situations, the Ministry of Agriculture, Water Resources and Regional Development, the Ministry of Energy and Industry, Kyrgyzhydromet and the Climate Finance Center took part in the event.
Dinara Kutmanova, Chair of the State Committee for Ecology and Climate, in turn noted the importance of creating permanent platforms for communication between the state and civil society.
Zhogorku Kenesh deputy Ekmat Baibakpaev stressed that only through joint efforts can we achieve results in developing the green economy and stabilizing the climate.
The “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project is implemented under the general coordination of the Norwegian Society for the Protection of Nature, in partnership with BIOM and GLIP, with the financial support of the European Union.
