Today, an open online lecture “Youth Participation in Climate Decision-Making” was held as part of the “Zhashyl Klimat” eco-workshop. The event’s speaker was Anna Kirilenko, manager of the “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project and executive director of the BIOM ecological movement.
Anna Kirilenko noted that every citizen of Kyrgyzstan, according to the Constitution, has the right to appeal to government bodies and participate in decision-making at the local and state level.
“We all have rights, including environmental ones,” said A. Kirilenko, “and the ability to defend one’s environmental rights is a defense of the right to life of present and future generations.”
Participants were also given a practical demonstration of how to submit a request to government bodies to obtain the necessary environmental information.
Event participants noted the importance and significance of the topic and thanked the speaker for an interesting lecture.
The “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project is implemented under the general coordination of the Norwegian Society for the Protection of Nature, in partnership with BIOM and GLIP, with the financial support of the European Union.
