The position was developed as part of a series of Youth Climate Change Conferences (LCOY Karakol, Osh and Bishkek). On August 24, the final youth meeting was held, bringing together more than 80 activists, students and representatives of youth public organizations from all regions of the country to develop a Position on climate change and increasing the role of youth in decision-making.
According to UN Secretary-General A. Guterres, today’s youth are the first generation living through the era of climate change and the last that can do something about it. That is why the role of youth in addressing climate issues is so significant today. As part of the Position, participants noted their readiness to take an active part in climate decision-making and offered their ideas and recommendations in areas such as agriculture, energy and water resources, transport, and sustainable tourism.

The Position will be sent to the State Committee for Ecology and Climate, the Climate Finance Center, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the KR, and will also be presented at the COY16 Youth Climate Change Conference, to be held in Glasgow in October of this year.
Anna Kirilenko, manager of the “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project, noted that youth participation in climate decision-making is a symbol of our shared hope. Already today we have managed to achieve certain successes: for example, in the draft NDC, youth are mentioned repeatedly, and not only as a vulnerable group, but also as those to whom resources should be directed, including for developing green business, sustainable agriculture, capacity building, etc. — highlighting the importance of youth participation in climate decision-making.
