Right now, the 5th Asian Student Forum of the Association of Asian Universities “Kyrgyzstan-Asia – 2021” is taking place on the shores of Issyk-Kul.
The event brought together more than 200 students from more than 25 universities in Central Asia and Russia.
One of the key topics of the event was ecology and climate change. Anna Kirilenko, manager of the “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project, gave a presentation on the project and the main environmental challenges facing Kyrgyzstan and the region. She called for the implementation of joint initiatives and cooperation among students, youth organizations and regional experts. The launch of the “Zhashyl Klimat” climate school for young eco-activists was also announced. Forum participants expressed great interest in this initiative and readiness for further cooperation.
The Forum’s chairman, Kanat Zhalilovich Sadykov, rector of J. Balasagyn KNU, noted the great importance of involving the youth of Asian countries in implementing environmental initiatives. It is especially significant that this topic is being raised here — on the shore of the pearl of Central Asia, Lake Issyk-Kul.
It should be noted that this year the Forum is being held for the fifth time and has become a sustainable platform for exchanging experience between universities and students on topics important to the region, such as cultural cooperation, peacebuilding, digital technologies and, of course, environmental issues. The Forum was initiated by Altai State University. Financial support for holding the Forum was provided by Rossotrudnichestvo.
The “Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project is implemented under the general coordination of the Norwegian Society for the Protection of Nature, in partnership with BIOM and GLIP, with the financial support of the European Union.
