On October 7, a stakeholder working meeting “Political Action for Climate Security in Central Asia” Phase II was held in Bishkek. More than 40 representatives of government bodies, youth, media and the public took part in the event.
David Moran, Regional Ambassador for COP26 in Europe, Central Asia, Turkey and Iran, noted in his speech that the Glasgow conference should become a turning point when the whole world declares that we care about the planet, our future, and the lives of our children and grandchildren. “We need to act today,” said David Moran.
Anna Kirilenko, manager of the “Zhashyl Klimat” project, presented Kyrgyzstan’s civil society Position on the NDC and COP26 to those gathered.
The Position is the result of extensive consultations with representatives of youth, women, business, local self-government bodies and universities from all regions of the country. In total, more than 300 people took part in the discussion.
The purpose of the document is to consolidate opinions in order to put forward proposals that take into account the interests of all social groups and reflect the vision of the Kyrgyzstani public on the country’s actions in the face of future climate change threats and building effective climate policy.
Climate change is a global problem and our shared responsibility. And it is all the more valuable that the public of Kyrgyzstan took an active part in preparing the country’s important climate documents.
