On October 25, the European Union’s “Zhashyl Klimat” project organized a consultative meeting ahead of the 26th Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow, with the participation of Ms. Carolyn Millow, director of the Green Central Asia initiative.
Representatives of government bodies, civil society, universities, media, and international experts took part in the event.
In her presentation, Ms. Carolyn Millow spoke about the European Union’s global Green Deal initiative — the largest correction of economic course in EU history, aimed at building a carbon-neutral space by 2050.
As part of this initiative, the European Union is aiming to reduce greenhouse gases by 55% by 2030.
Ms. Carolyn Millow noted that global warming is a threat to the entire planet, including Central Asia. The expert stressed the importance of cooperation between the region’s governments, civil society and international institutions to stabilize climate processes. It was also noted that the goal of the “Green Central Asia” program is to improve access to information and risk analysis on climate change for countries in the region.
The “Zhashyl Klimat — Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project is implemented under the general coordination of the Norwegian Society for the Protection of Nature, in partnership with BIOM and GLIP, with the financial support of the European Union.
