The “Central Asian Information Campaign ‘Biodiversity — the Fabric of Life'” was launched together with the Central Asian project of the Global Environment Facility (GEF) and the World Bank (WB), “Conservation of the Biodiversity of the Western Tien Shan,” in 2004.
The project was aimed at creating an information campaign in several Central Asian cities, including Almaty, Bishkek, Osh, and Tashkent. The campaign’s main goal was to raise awareness and foster understanding among the region’s population of the importance of biodiversity and its role in maintaining ecosystems and sustainable development.
The project included the following components:
1. Information events: organizing seminars, lectures, and master classes on biodiversity, nature conservation, and sustainable resource use.
2. Creation of information resources: developing information materials, brochures, posters, and other means of disseminating information about biodiversity.
3. Networking: establishing cooperation with organizations and institutions in the region for joint events and information exchange.
4. Promoting sustainable natural resource management: supporting and popularizing sustainable natural resource use practices among local communities.
The project’s expected results were increased public awareness of the importance of biodiversity, more active public participation in protecting the nature and resources of the Western Tien Shan, and improved regional cooperation on biodiversity conservation. This project served the goal of preserving unique ecosystems in the Western Tien Shan and drawing attention to this important issue in Central Asia.
