The project “Education for Sustainable Development” was developed in 2008 with the goal of promoting the integration of sustainable-development principles into Kyrgyzstan’s higher education. The project is implemented with support from UNESCO and is part of a global initiative to promote sustainable development in education.
Kyrgyzstan’s education system directly covers about 1.5 million people, and its influence extends to the entire population of the country. Education is a key tool for building the knowledge and skills needed to create a sustainable future, which is why its integration with the principles of sustainable development is critically important.
The project’s goal is to develop a special manual for university teachers that will enable them to incorporate sustainable development into the educational process. The manual will include current methods, teaching materials, and recommendations for integrating sustainability into courses across various specialties.
The central body responsible for developing policy in education and science, and for controlling the quality of education, is the Ministry of Education and Science of the Kyrgyz Republic, which actively supports and cooperates in the implementation of this project.
This project aims to create a more sustainable and harmonious future for Kyrgyzstan and its population, equipping students with the knowledge and skills needed to address complex problems while taking environmental, economic, and social sustainability into account.
