In 2002, with support from the Regional Environmental Center for Central Asia, the project “Summer Camp for Teachers ‘School of Sustainable Development'” was organized. The project’s main goal was to teach teachers the principles of sustainable development and provide them with the tools and resources needed to integrate these principles into the educational process.
As part of the project, a summer camp was organized for teachers, where they were provided with training materials and practical skills needed to teach sustainable development in schools. In addition, a manual for teachers titled “School of Sustainable Development” was published as part of the project.
The publication systematically presents the main principles of the concept of Sustainable Development. The authors introduce readers to the origins of environmental problems and ways to solve them. Special chapters are devoted to the issues of public participation in environmentally significant decision-making as a necessary element of community sustainability, as well as modern trends and methods in education for Sustainable Development.
This manual provided teachers with specific instructions and recommendations for integrating sustainable development into the educational process, as well as materials for lessons and educational events. The project “Summer Camp for Teachers ‘School of Sustainable Development'” helped prepare teachers to introduce the principles of sustainable development into educational programs, which, in turn, helped foster a more responsible attitude toward the environment among students and an understanding of the principles of sustainability.
