In 2009, the Environmental Movement “BIOM,” together with the UNDP program “Disaster Risk Management,” implemented a teacher-training project based on the use of a training manual called “Learning to Live with Hazard.” This project aimed to strengthen the readiness of educational institutions and their teaching staff to act in conditions of natural disasters and hazards.
The project held special seminars for teachers, providing them with the information and skills needed to teach students about safety and risk management. The manual “Learning to Live with Hazard” served as the basis for these seminars and provided teachers with practical tools and materials for incorporating disaster-risk-management education into curricula and programs.
The project’s goal was to increase students’ awareness of and readiness to act in the event of natural disasters, and to prepare a new generation of citizens for life amid natural hazards. The partnership with the UNDP program provided access to the experts and resources needed for the effective implementation of the disaster-risk-management project in educational institutions.
