Today, October 21, a consultative meeting ahead of the 26th Climate Change Conference of the Parties in Glasgow was held, attended by representatives of government bodies, the public and the education sector of Kyrgyzstan.
The event was organized by the EU “Zhashyl Klimat” project in partnership with the Ministry of Natural Resources, Ecology and Technical Supervision of the KR.
International biotic regulation expert Anastasia Makarieva presented on the biotic foundations of climate regulation to meeting participants.
In her presentation, A. Makarieva noted that, contrary to popular belief, natural ecosystems are not only forests, but also natural steppe ecosystems, wetlands and others.
The expert highlighted the special nature of natural ecosystems. Through their evolution, they contain information about the optimal characteristics of the environment and climate. Natural ecosystems possess great power, exceeding the power of civilization tenfold, and use this power to stabilize the optimal environment and climate. The main conclusion of the concept of biotic regulation is that by destroying natural ecosystems, we disrupt a fragile balance, driving the environment and climate into an unstable state.
“Without biotic regulation, the environment and climate on Earth rapidly deteriorate into a state unfavorable for life,” said A. Makarieva.
The “Zhashyl Klimat — Youth Resilience to Climate Change” project is implemented under the general coordination of the Norwegian Society for the Protection of Nature, in partnership with BIOM and GLIP, with the financial support of the European Union.
